LISBON (AFX) - HC Energia, the Spanish electricity division of EDP - Energias de Portugal SA, announced that net profit soared 144 pct to 173 mln eur last year from 71.1 mln in 2004 as its power production grew 10.6 pct to a record 16,510 gigawatt hours.

Naturgas, EDP's Spanish gas business, posted net profit of 17.8 mln eur, up 2.2 pct, as sales improved 36.1 pct to 675.9 mln and EBITDA dropped 1.6 pct to 109.3 mln.
