"We will not depend (only) on Metro," he said at a Confederation of Indian Industry function here, adding, he had suggested to officials that they explore the possibility of monorail "immediately." Later, he told reporters that the Government was looking at options like monorail -- along with metrorail -- to make commuting easier and decongest traffic as early as possible.

The Chief Minister also welcomed the clearance given to metrorail project for Bangalore by the Group of Ministers headed by Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar yesterday.

Kumaraswamy said he would hold discussions with Union Urban Development Ministry officials in Delhi regarding metro-rail project, which would be taken up soon.

In his address on the occasion of CII Karnataka Annual Members Day and a session of "PPPs (Public-Private Partnerships) in Infrastructure Development," the Chief Minister said his Government was looking for PPPs in the areas of water supply, wastewater management, transport, urban development, education, healthcare and other social sectors.

Kumaraswamy also said he saw great potential for private participation in infrastructure development in areas such as electricity generation and distribution, upgradation of state highways and development of new bypass roads.
